About Maha Cooper
Maha is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults.
Maha uses an eclectic range of therapeutic approaches with her clients, holding the belief that every client is uniquely different and deserves care and treatment that is individually tailored to meet their needs. Her training has given her experience at providing various therapeutic interventions such as CBT, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Client-Based Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Maha is qualified and registered to administer Psychoeducational Assessments and ADHD Assessments.
Working compassionately and patiently is an essential part of Maha's therapeutic model. She is focused on building rapport and allowing young people and adults the space to express themselves within an empathic and safe space. She uses a range of methods such as CBT, art therapy, play therapy and role-play in an integrative approach, allowing each individual client to have an outlet to express themselves. She provides individual, group and family therapy which includes parental support, psychoeducation and advice on coping with individual and systemic mental health difficulties. In addition, Maha is qualified in administering various psychoeducational assessments, cognitive assessments and personality assessments to test across a range of different neurodevelopmental concerns. Throughout extensive training, Maha is a qualified Brain Trainer, where she works on enhancing cognitive skills such as attention, long-term memory, working memory, auditory and visual processing, reasoning abilities and processing speed.
Maha began her journey by completing her Bachelors in Psychology from the prestigious University of Sussex, UK. After completing her Post Graduate degree in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions for Children and Young People, Maha worked as a trainee practitioner for the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. Her work was focused on supporting children and young people who were experiencing a range of mental health concerns, primarily anxiety and mood disorders. During that NHS experience, her curiosity for the infinitely different ways people behave, think and feel, sparked a passion to pursue her Masters in Clinical Psychology, allowing her to support and help facilitate active change in the emotional well-being of the clients she treated. This built her knowledge and understanding of a multitude of psychological difficulties, such as: anxiety conditions, mood disorders, OCD, personality disorders, addictions and trauma.
Alongside completing her Masters degree, Maha worked in the detox ward of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital (Dubai) specialising in rehabilitation and therapy for inpatients with complex and high risk presentations across a broad spectrum of mental health conditions. Following her Masters degree, she joined Rashid Hospital (Dubai) assisting in inpatient and outpatient services with a comprehensive psychiatric approach for an array of psychological disorders. The UAE government sector experience has supported Maha in acquiring comprehensive knowledge of available public sector services, as well as providing her with the ambition to continue her drive for mental health policy and reform in the Gulf region.
Maha is passionate about advocating mental health awareness and routinely supports the UAE Community by speaking and presenting on a range of mental health topics to students, parents and professionals.
